Queen Mary, University of London has several campuses, its main site being situated in the historic People’s Palace in the East End of London. The People’s Palace was built in the Victorian age to bring cultural activities to the people of East London. A fire in 1931 destroyed a significant part of the original People’s Palace, but the great Octagon remained unscathed and now provides one of two remarkable performance spaces. The magnificent high domed Octagon is modelled on the great Reading Room in the British Museum. A new People’s Palace was completed in 1936 and its Great Hall has one of the largest stages in London. A recent £6.5 million refurbishment, completed in 2012, has made this 770 seat venue a state-of-the-art performance space.
There are further beautiful and historic spaces for music making, including the Old Library of the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, which is the main home for student music activities at the Whitechapel campus.
Queen Mary, University of London has welcomed Paul, tasking him with enriching the musical and artistic life of Queen Mary students, staff and the wider community.
